Besi is a leading supplier of semiconductor assembly equipment for the global semiconductor and electronics industry. The company develops, produces and sells machines that allow chip manufacturers to connect chips on printed circuit boards and package them. Besi has experienced strong growth in recent years and operates in an industry that continues to grow and innovate. Meco, also known as ‘Product Group Plating’, contributes around 5% of Besi Group turnover and is based in Den Bosch.

Meco Equipment Engineers is a market leader with a global installed base of ~800 machines.
Under the Meco name, they design, develop and manufacture electro-plating and wet-chemical applications, focusing mainly on the Semicon market. Meco has built a rock-solid international reputation for high performance, excellent reliability, top quality and unbeatable cost-effectiveness.
The systems can be delivered, installed and maintained in any industrialised country thanks to Besi's regional Sales and Service organisations. In addition to these high-quality and highly reliable systems, Meco also offers advice and support on the installation and startup of plating chemistry (turn-key). There is a continuous dialogue with customers on new technological requirements.

In 2015, Besi transferred plating production to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Moreover, plating machines for the Chinese market are also assembled in Leshan, China.

The Den Bosch location is a project organisation with two main goals:

  1. Order Engineering for systems sold.
  2. Development of future machines and new features for existing products.

Worldwide, Besi has 1,500 - 2,000 employees. For Plating, about 80 people are employed, half of which are at Meco in Den Bosch.

Working at Besi and Meco means being part of a global multinational team with technology leadership in the fast-paced world of semiconductor packaging equipment.

Your position as Manager Order Engineering

The main goal of the position is to provide a complete engineering package within the set requirements of quality, time and budget. As no two Meco machines are the same, this means an intensive participation in the Sales process, with Product Management , Sales, Customer Project Managers (CPMs), Supply Chain Management and Operations.

As Manager, you will be responsible for the Order Engineering department (mechanical design, hardware design, software engineering and process engineering) in terms of time, cost and quality. Within the team, Lead Engineers take care of the coordination of each individual machine. After careful reviews, the package is forwarded to the Production Department (in Asia) where the parts are purchased and the machine assembled and tested. In doing so, you also support the Production and Logistics department in terms of quality and technical aspects. You compile the team (internal and external resources) and coordinate objectives with all stakeholders.

You steer by KPIs, draw up schedules, keep an overview and involve management if necessary, continuously keeping an eye on time and budget.

For efficient order entry, Meco strives to configure machines based on standard modules. Through such standardisation and modularisation, higher quality and more efficient manufacturability is achieved by Operations in Asia. As a manager, you know how to maintain these machine standards and how to improve modularization in line with market demands.

In the role of Manager Order Engineering, you will report directly to the Director R&D and have regular contact with the Managing Director and Meco Management Team. You will liaise with Sales, Product Management, Procurement, Production Project Managers, Customer Project Managers, R&D Engineers (Meco and Besi Singapore) and, of course, customers and suppliers.

You will also be responsible for:

  • Financial Planning & Control (including budgets, reporting, costing);
  • Team Management (including competencies, skills and level of employees, recruitment, yearly appraisals);
  • Quality (e.g. implementing processes and tools to minimise critical errors, stimulating quality awareness and advising on quality policy and strategy).
  • You directly manage 10 employees, making use of a diversity of flexible employees during busy times.

Your profile

You have excellent management qualities and operate effectively in a project-driven organisation in which you also immerse yourself. You lead easily and naturally in a coaching manner where ownership, authenticity and empathy are important. You are a bridge builder and connector, someone who is visible in the organisation and accessible to employees at all levels. You motivate and stimulate employees and know how to get them on board.

You have demonstrable knowledge of technology, production processes, purchasing, service, logistics and vision. Customer focus, quality awareness and process optimisation are keywords that weave through the fabric of your career. You enjoy the challenge of working in the technical-commercial field of tension between the development process, manufacturability, delivery pressure and financial results.

As Manager Order Engineering, you have perseverance, you strongly identify with management objectives and come up with creative solutions to complex problems where technology and commercial aspects meet.  You have a helicopter view, good communication skills, set the right priorities, are stress-resistant and are a strong decision-maker. You are able to create a culture in which people are stimulated to develop initiatives, express themselves freely and take ownership. You strive for the highest possible level of quality resulting in satisfied customers and positive financial operations.

The Manager Order Engineering identifies with the following profile:

  • HBO or WO education in a technical field preferably Mechanical Engineering or Process Engineering;
  • At least 5 years' work experience in a technical environment;
  • Broad experience in managing, motivating and stimulating teams with a diversity of knowledge and experience;
  • Ability to collaborate with internal stakeholders such as Sales, Supply Chain, Production Project Managers and Customer Service to improve the overall value stream;
  • Experience with engineering projects and project-based working;
  • Experience with SAP and CAD/PLM software;
  • Excellent command of the English language both verbally and in writing. Dutch is an advantage.
  • Willingness to travel to Besi locations, once a year (1-2 wks).

What does Meco offer you?
